MONGOOSE: A 2D VOF Model for Wave Interaction With Coastal Structures

A VOF model MONGOOSE is developed for the study of wave interaction with porous coastal structures. The model is based on the RIPPLE code for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The RIPPLE code is extended to include multiple porous media layers as well as a more complex solid geometry representation than is available in RIPPLE. Reynolds averaging is performed, and two turbulence closure options are provided. Test cases for wave propagation in an open channel, flow through a porous dike, wave interaction with a caisson breakwater and wave shoaling and breaking on a beach are provided.
