The Center for Applied Coastal Research wishes to thank Nobu Kobayashi for serving as the Center director from 2001-2017.

Nobu has been at the University of Delaware since 1981 and has received numerous awards including the John G. Moffatt Frank E. Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award and the International Coastal Engineering Award. He is also the First Visiting Distinguished Researcher of the Port and Airport Research Institute, Japan. He recently chaired the 36th International Conference on Coastal Engineering.

Nobu has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal article in addition to numerous book chapters and book editorial efforts. His main research interests include sediment transport mechanics, coastal structures, offshore engineering, and hydraulic engineering. He is widely known for developing (and sharing) engineering models for coastal processes including RBREAK and CSHORE.
